Privacy Policy

We collect as little as we can get away with, and we tell you exactly what it is.

Last updated: October 21, 2026

1. Who we are

GeekDeal is an editorial site covering gaming and geek deals for the United States. For any privacy question, contact privacy@geekdeal.example.

2. What we collect

  • Email address — only if you subscribe to the newsletter, together with the timestamp of your consent.
  • Message content — if you use the contact form or report a deal, we receive what you write, including your name and email if you provide them.
  • Deal reports — when you click “Report outdated”, we store the deal ID and the time of the report. This is kept in your browser's local storage and is not tied to your identity.
  • Basic technical logs — standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested page) retained for security and abuse prevention.

We do not collect payment information, we do not run account logins, and we do not ask for your address or phone number.

3. Why we collect it

To send the newsletter you asked for, to answer your messages, to fix outdated deals, and to keep the site secure. That is the complete list. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.

4. Legal bases (GDPR, where applicable)

  • Consent — for the newsletter. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • Legitimate interest — for security logs and responding to messages you send us.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain records, for example consent records for commercial email.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use local storage for two purposes: remembering which deals you reported as outdated, and remembering whether you opted out of analytics. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not run third-party tracking pixels, and we do not load Google Analytics or any equivalent script.

Our own analytics is deliberately minimal. We record two things on our server: that a page was viewed, and that a deal link was clicked. Each event carries the page path, the hostname of the referrer (never the full URL), a random session id that is discarded when you close the tab, and a coarse screen class (mobile, tablet, desktop). We do not store your IP address, we do not fingerprint your browser, and we cannot link a session to a person. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is recorded at all.

6. Sharing

We share data only with the service providers required to operate the site — an email delivery provider for the newsletter and a hosting provider for the site itself. Those providers process data on our instructions. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

7. Retention

  • Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we do not email you again by accident.
  • Contact messages: up to 24 months.
  • Server logs: up to 90 days.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent.

  • GDPR (EU/UK): all of the above, plus the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
  • CCPA/CPRA (California): the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@geekdeal.example. We respond within 30 days, or sooner where the law requires it.

9. Email consent

We collect express consent before sending commercial email. Every message includes a functioning unsubscribe link and our mailing address. Unsubscribe requests are processed immediately, and we retain a minimal suppression record to honour them.

10. Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Our hosting and email providers may process data outside your country. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

12. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and announce the change in the newsletter. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Note: this policy is written to be readable, but it is not legal advice. Before launch, have it reviewed by a lawyer familiar with FTC and state consumer-protection requirements for your specific setup.
